About This Tool

If you need your video to fit under a specific file size — for an upload limit, storage budget, or bandwidth constraint — this calculator works backward from your target size and duration to tell you exactly what bitrate to export at.

How to Use This Tool

Step 1 — Enter your target file size in megabytes.

Step 2 — Enter the video duration in minutes.

Step 3 — Use the resulting bitrate in your export settings.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Forgetting to leave room for audio. This calculates total bitrate; if your encoder sets video and audio bitrate separately, subtract your audio bitrate (usually 128-320 kbps) first.

Setting bitrate too low for the resolution. Very low bitrates for high resolutions cause visible compression artifacts — check the Resolution Calculator for recommended minimums.

Why does my exported file not match the exact target size?

Most encoders use variable bitrate by default, which can cause some deviation. For a closer match, use a constant bitrate (CBR) setting in your export tool.
